Media Release April 2009 - Go Troppo Arts Festival

The inaugural Go Troppo Arts Festival, Port Douglas, held in October 2008 was a wild success!

Fifteen separate events took part - from the opening Low Isles Exhibition of paintings, sculpture and glass at the old sugar wharf to demonstrations and workshops, films, theatre, a musical soiree, busking in the streets and a final concert, which attracted 2000 people.

Now it’s all happening again! Only bigger and better! This October 2 – 11 will see a smorgasbord of tropical experiences that could not be found anywhere else in the world!

The best thing is that most of them will be inter-active, so that you will be able to participate in the intimate atmosphere of an improvised “theatre in the round” as you watch a play about the life of style-setting pioneers, visit a glass studio in a hidden valley to make glass jewellery – even develop a painting masterpiece during a life-drawing class held by a rainforest creek!

You could go sketching with a local artist in the savannah, make a length of fabric dyed with local natural dyes under the tuition of a famous fashion designer, paint a silk scarf depicting tropical flowers, improvise with a group of advanced string players or create a life-sized self-portrait in clay!

That’s just the beginning! Local restaurants will join in with “the art of dining” al fresco, choirs and musical ensembles will entertain as participants wander the “festival trail” around the picturesque, small tropical town of Port Douglas.

Add special accommodation packages and discounts for Friends of the Festival to these unique cultural experiences to make sure that your stay in “paradise” is affordable as well as memorable.

If you feel like enjoying a little tropical culture in stunning surroundings, why not Go Troppo with us?
