A special belly-dancer

by Jill
(Port Douglas)

The orange sun sank over the darkening blue mountains and a cool breeze wafted through the warm air as guests arrived in their gorgeous tropical attire for the opening evening of Go Troppo Arts Festival 2009.

There are not many reasons to get 'dressed up' in Port Douglas so people enjoy the opportunity to do so for this inexpensive gala cocktail party, held traditionally during the full moon every October at the old sugar wharf in Port Douglas, North Queensland.

After everyone had admired the artworks on display (Monsoon Passage) they gathered at the end of the deck for speeches by our guests of honor, Diane Cilento and Julia Leu.

Then the entertainment began!

Maggie Oliveira, who used to live in Port Douglas, flew in for a few days of festival fun and to dance especially for us. Here you see her in action.
