Enjoy creative sculpture - an individual project
This creative sculpture project follows on from the portraits in clay workshop, so students who attend that will gain useful skills for use in what could be regarded as an extension of that workshop. But the portrait sculpture workshop is not a pre-requisite for this project, which is open to all levels of achievement - from complete beginners to those with more experience. Aden McLeod's own work is often realistically figurative but he also works at an abstract level so he will be able to help you with whatever your sculptural project may be. You may be as creative and inventive as you wish!
Aden will assist participants to turn their creative ideas into reality, demonstrating techniques to successfully create a sculptural piece. Participants may bring an idea, photo, maquette or armature or just come along and be inspired on the day. Depending on your project, you will need one or two bags of clay as well as armatures, chicken wire etc. One bag of clay per person has been allowed for in the cost of the workshop. Please let us know if you will need more.
Participants in this workshop will learn -
1. Preparation of the clay and function of an armature. Using sketches, making maquettes.2. Building up a sculpture based on geometrical forms (additive). Adding pieces of clay - joining techniques 3. Carving out a form from a block of clay (subtractive). Considering forms from all directions - balance, harmony, strength, organic growth. 4. Discussion about firing and casting techniques.
LOCATION of this creative sculpture workshop is in the old sugar wharf, Port Douglas. COST per person is $A100. Please see attached form for payment options. MATERIALS for use in this class are all included in the price. NB if you choose to bring your own materials (1 bag fine soft terracotta clay) please deduct $A25 or let us know if your project will require an extra bag of clay (extra $25).
