A description of some of the wonderful arts workshops on offer at Go Troppo Arts Festival 2010.

A brief description of workshops follows, in order of presentation. More detailed information is available on request.

Basic materials are supplied for all classes but feel free to bring your favourite brushes etc.

All teachers are practising artists and experienced teachers, who will help you to get the most from your sessions. They will provide 'hand-out' material for reference but it's a good idea to bring a notebook and maybe a camera as well.

Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring your lunch. ('Food for Thought' participants excepted.)

  SCULPTING THE COAST
Sat October 23 and Sun 24

This two-day workshop is run by leading environmental artist, Jill Chism.

Although open to all, a basic understanding of arts practice would be useful.

Participants will develop an understanding of environmental sculpture from an international and national perspective and will then apply this knowledge to the creation of ephemeral sculptures at chosen sites close to the ocean or rivers. The documentation process includes tuition on the use of a camera. Please bring yours!

     VOCAL BOOT CAMP
     Saturday October 23

Speech pathologist, Gail Rogers has worked in Australia and overseas with, mostly professional, adults to help them to develop their vocal skills.

Your voice is a projection of yourself and your chief means of communication. Yet some still use theirs inefficiently.

This workshop, for all ages, will provide a unique learning experience which is theoretical and practical, resulting in improved use of your voice in everyday situations. It sounds as if it will be fun as well!

            Tuesday October26

Brilliant chef and special events company owner, Cameron Walton and artist/teacher, Jill Booth have teamed up to bring you a day of experimental, creative learning.

The idea is that you will respond to arrangements of delicious tropical fruits and vegetables by creating a series of quick still life sketches, paintings and collages as you explore principles of shape, form, composition and colour. Both beginners and more experienced artists are very welcome.

Then Cam will extend your sensual experience of this cornucopia of tropical delights by teaching you how to cook some of the display - I am sure that you won't need any help in eating it!

Sketches and photographs of your classmates enjoying the fruits of their labours could then be worked up into finished drawings and paintings.

     LETTING GO
PORTRAIT SCULPTURE

  Saturday October 30

Aden McLeod is a very experienced sculptor, who encourages the best from his students.

In this introduction to portrait sculpture students will learn to 'let go' - to see a subject, feel it emotionally and respond to it by letting it out through their hands without too much intellectualising. Tools and techniques for working with clay as well as proportions will be covered during the day.

This was one of the most popular workshops last year with participants producing fabulous results.
