Emerging artists display varied styles at Go Troppo Arts Festival exhibition at DAB in Mossman.
Douglas Arts Base has been operating in Mossman as a home for arts tuition for the last ten or so years. Over this time, adult students have developed creative skills that, for some, have led to new careers as established artists.
Under Peter Culley’s tuition and guidance, Douglas Arts Base, or DAB as it is affectionately known, has mounted successful student exhibitions twice a year. In 2008 an impressive group exhibition was held as part of Go Troppo Arts Festival, followed in 2009 by her first solo exhibition for emerging artist, Yoshiko Kirby. Imagine launching a career with a ‘sell-out’ exhibition!
"PATHWAYS"

In 2010, many of DAB’s artists have taken up the challenge to research and respond to the theme of “Pathways”.Some have chosen a literal and conventional response but others have searched within themselves to come up with abstracted , personal and thought-provoking interpretations.

Peter is excited by this conceptual approach and sees it as an exploration of students’ journeys along their creative pathways and as a freedom from the representational, realistic approach. If you are looking forward to unearthing emerging talent be sure to not miss the exhibition, which runs from the opening on the evening of Saturday October 23 until the afternoon of October 31.
