Want to get involved in Go Troppo Arts Festival 2010? Now's your chance!
That's the message that events organisers of the Go Troppo Arts Festival 2010 (October 22 - 31) would like to spread far and wide. If you are a visual artist, performer, musician, writer, curator or film maker, here is an opportunity to get involved by showing off to a growing audience from all over the world - and having some fun in the process! Tropical artists have wonderful material at hand and many are experienced and established practitioners.
Don't let the thought of all that expertise put you off as we are especially looking for young artists with fresh ideas and the energy and reliability to put them into practice. Mentors are on hand to help if you are stuck. The theme for 2010 is 'Pathways', which is so general as to have the ability to be interpreted in many ways.
Along with that subject is the overriding concept of renewal and abundance, which gave birth to the festival and why it is staged towards the end of the year (October) around the full moon. The coral spawning on the Great Barrier Reef often happens then, as does the amazing cornucopia of tropical fruits and flowers which burst into being with 'over-the-top' colour, fragrance and taste! October is also the 'shoulder' period for tropical tourism, so the arts festival helps to extend that season for businesses, whilst offering visitors a less crowded experience - and, often, special accommodation deals!
