Its all about the paint!

Suitable for experienced artists who wish to extend their knowledge of what paint can do for them, this workshop will be delivered courtesy of Jim and Josephine Cobb, owners of Chroma Australia.

In fact, so passionate are they about artists' paint and its best usage, they have kindly decided to partner all of the arts workshops during the Go Troppo Arts Festival, choosing to subsidise workshop costs by their direct financial contribution. This generosity is greatly appreciated by the workshop organisers - and, I am sure, by you, our prospective students.

JimCobb in his chaotic and creative studio laboratory

As the inventor and manufacturer of a range of artists paints and mediums, Jim Cobb and his wife Josephine ask that participating artists bring with them two of their recent paintings to work on during the day.

Their studios and laboratory, set in tropical gardens, are half an hour’s drive into the mountains west of Port Douglas. The gardens could form subject matter for sketches if participants wish – or a still life could be set up for new work.

In order to best be able to help you they would like to see some of your recent work. Participants should have some experience, be interested in furthering their art and be willing to experiment in this workshop, which will lead them to new horizons in their future artwork. Unfortunately for beginners, this specialised workshop is not for you !

Equipment and materials

Artists, you will be expected to bring your own equipment i.e. paint, brushes, palette knives, rags, bulldog clips, substrate, canvas, container for water, other small containers for mediums, easel if you need one, palette, plus a new canvas or good quality watercolour paper; in other words all the equipment you would normally take to a workshop.

As it is recognised that some artists may be travelling a long distance, perhaps from other countries, arrangements may be made to make basic materials and equipment available to them. Please make contact with Jim through the form below if that is the case.

Whether you prefer to use acrylic or oil you are are asked to make sure that all new surfaces have been sealed with binder and at least two coats of gesso, ready to begin work. If you use oils please bring some odourless solvent and containers.

All mediums will be supplied by Jim and Josephine.

General aims of the workshop

· To help students become aware of what 21st century artists' paints are capable of.
· To lead participants to explore the use of mediums to produce very interesting effects.
· To assist students to realise ways of expanding their own capabilities with both acrylic and oils.

Jim says that this learning process will be a "two way street" as artists will bring their own experience with them.

Once you have enrolled in the course, Jim would like to start an email conversation with you if you have internet access. This will enable him to find out what you are most interested in as an individual so that they can give you personal attention on the day.

Refreshments will be supplied during the day and Jim and Josephine would like to invite you to be their guest at lunch on the wide verandah of their home.

LOCATION of "It's all about the paint!" workshop is at Jim and Josephine's home/studio at Julatten.

COST per person is $A88. Please see attached form for payment options.

MATERIALS for use in this class need to be brought by the student unless otherwise arranged.

TIME 9.45am - 4pm.
