Make your own glass paperweight at this rainforest studio workshop.

Make your own beautiful paperweight as the mystery and alchemy of heat, silica and skilled dexterity is revealed.

If you are fortunate enough to enrol in this fabulous glass workshop, it will be an experience that you will never forget.

Join master art glass artisan, Ola Hoglund, as he introduces you to the properties of glass and teaches you how to build up layers of molten, coloured glass to produce an original artwork that you can proudly display on your desk - or use for a special gift.

Rainforest studio in Far North Queensland

Ola Hoglund's art glass studio is set in the Whyanbeel Valley, half an hour's drive north of the small resort town of Port Douglas.

Ola and his wife, Marie, spend about half the year in Far North Queensland and the rest of the time travelling to their native Sweden or to New Zealand, where their main studio is located.

It is in North Queensland that ideas are generated for new series of works for commissions and exhibitions, which make the artwork of this hard-working, world famous couple, so highly sought after.

So how would you like to learn how to craft something as beautiful as one of these paperweights? Choose your favourite colours and swirls to complete what may well become a family heirloom!

The excitement of the process as the white-hot furnace changes the glass to a liquid state, to be turned and fashioned by your creativity, will take over and leave you thrilled with your new accomplishment.

Who knows, you may have started on a whole new life's direction!

In this workshop you will learn how to -

1. manipulate molten glass from a furnace

2. add colour glass to clear glass

3. shape a solid paperweight
