Enjoy poetry and Pasta at Port Douglas
When asked for a description of the Poetry and Pasta evening, which she is organising for Go Troppo Arts Festival, Faye Hudson came up with this piece of whimsy - “Performers preview poems prior to partaking of pasta, painstakingly prepared for personal pleasure. Post prandial performances proceed, players providing plenty of pleasant poetry planned to prop up popularity of poetry in Port. Please plan to participate!”
For most of 2009, the QCWA hall in Port Douglas has been the scene for weekly poetry readings. Budding poets read their own writings or those of others that they admire as they enjoy freshly prepared pasta and good company.
This first-ever Go Troppo Arts Festival open poetry competition will be a great way for visitors to meet the locals, but the hall is very small and numbers strictly limited, so please book early.
If you would like to enter into the spirit of the occasion, please send your entries to PO Box 914, Port Douglas, 4877 by September 15, 2009. Any type of poetry may be entered and there is no entry fee. The winner will receive $100 cash.

Creative tourism
seems to be the new ‘buzz’ word to join the much valued ‘cultural tourism’ concept, which it extends to cover a grass roots and participatory experience in the culture of a region. Many Go Troppo Arts Festival events, including this one, fit this category and, in this sense, lead the way for other small festivals and tourism activities in Australia.
