Learn how to build a life-sized portrait in clay.
Imagine being able to build a life sized portrait in clay - and have it look like the person too! This full day workshop is titled "Learning to let go: an introduction to portrait sculpture". Aden Mc Leod is a very experienced sculptor and teacher who lives on the Atherton Tablelands. Originally from Texas, USA, he has lived and worked in many countries, holding workshops and making bronze sculptures and life-like clay or bronze portraits of the people in towns that he has visited.

Students will spend much of the day experimenting with the material and implementing techniques taught by Aden, seen here with one of the "characters" that he has just finished building.Students will work from a live model with discussion and comparison of individual interpretations and techniques being part of the learning process.
During this portrait sculpture workshop you will learn
1. Something of the properties of clay 2. Clay handling 3. The proportions of the human head, neck and shoulders 4. Viewing the head from all angles as sculpture is three dimensional. 5. How to portray the character of your subject.
