Painting Port's portraits.

Does painting portraits of your family and friends - or of yourself - sound rather daunting?

Would you like to know how to start on such a venture? If you are a beginner or if you have a modest level of achievement then this workshop in painting some of Port's characters may start you on a new and exciting path.

Your tutor, artist Mary Ann Runciman, has been sketching and painting people for many years. She enjoys sitting in a park, at fishermen's jetties on the waterfront or in a cafe, sketching quietly away as her subjects chat over their coffee or a beer.

For this workshop Mary Ann will enlist the help of some of Port's characters as her subjects and invite them to sit for you, as you learn the basics of the anatomy and proportions of the human head and how, using light and shade, line and tone, its form can be developed into a well composed drawing or painting.

Students will develop an understanding of

1. the different approaches and choices involved in portraiture.

2. planning, composition, proportion and perspective as applied to depiction of the human head.

3. the use of line, shape and tone in developing a likeness and a feeling for the character of a person.

It is hoped that students will feel inspired to continue to study portraiture and will have gained a better understanding and appreciation of the skills involved in its practice.

LOCATION of "Port's Portraits" workshop is in the old sugar wharf in Port Douglas.

COST per person is $A95. Please see attached form for payment options.

MATERIALS for use in this class are all included in the price.
