Make a tropical themed sculptural book using the concertina structure.

Learn to make a sculptural book using a concertina structure during this interesting workshop with Adele Outteridge.

Adele specialises in making sculptural forms using paper and perspex in her own arts practice. When she isn't making art she teaches adults at the Brisbane studio that she shares with painter/printmaker, Wim de Vos.

What is an artist's book?

The three dimensional nature of books is obvious, so a book can be a sculpture. But can a sculpture also be a book? What if a book has no text inside it, is it still a book? Can a book have a narrative without text? Can an abstract sculpture convey a narrative - or a message?

Investigations into the history of the artists' books movement of the twentieth century will form the background of experiments into your interpretation of this fascinating medium.

Participants in this workshop will learn methods of

1. selecting and cutting pages
2. folding concertina spine
3. preparing and decorating covers
4. assembling, sewing and finishing

They will complete a tropical themed, sculptural book with differently shaped and coloured pages, sewn to a folded spine.

LOCATION of this workshop is in the old sugar wharf in Port Douglas.

COST per person is $A100. Please see attached form for payment options.

MATERIALS for use in this class are all included in the price.
